Strawberries and Cherries

It's strawberry season in Australia, it starts in May and finishes in October. Strawberries are so cheap lately, a punnet costs about $1.99 in the fruit market or supermarkets. The strawberries we buy in Sydney are mainly grown in Queensland, in the beautiful Sunshine Coast, just north of Brisbane.

Strawberries are the only fruit with their seeds on the outside. They are also packed with Vitamin C which is important in the winter season to keep away the colds and flu.

I made french toast for breakfast this morning and served it with strawberries.

Cherries are one of my favourite stone fruits. Whilst it is not cherry season (it is a summer fruit), in winter, the cherries sold in the fruit markets and supermarkets are imported from USA. These dark red cherries are absolutely crunchy and sweet.
