We stayed in a lovely apartment hotel on our last visit to Melbourne. It was the newly opened (July 2010) property - Citadines on Bourke. This property is owned by the same hotel management group, The Ascott Group, that owns the Somerset hotels. I booked us a studio apartment with a king size bed. The apartment was a good size with a king size bed and small lounge area. It had a small kitchenette with a single drawer dishwasher, fridge, and the usual amenities like ironing board and iron, tv etc. As the hotel is still new, it was clean and in good condition. The location was the best, on the upper end of Bourke St towards the Parliament house. The tram stops were right in front, which was really convenient for Ashleigh and myself. We bought the Zone 1 day trippers from the 7-Eleven store located opposite the hotel. Everything was within walking distance - Princess Theatre, Chinatown, Federation Square. I booked the hotel through hotels.com and I paid a reasonable price for 2 nights. I will definitely consider staying here again.
I am glad you mentioned about the Citadines in Melbourne. I have liked what I see in the Ascott Group Residences, but not the one in Sydney CBD. By the way, Happy Birthday Cait!
